Stanton Middle School jumped on the bandwagon patriotism that swept the nation in the aftermath of 9/11. What more heroic way to help than by plastering one's name on a shirt in connection with a terrible event.
The real heroes were the firemen, the police, and now the heroes are the soldiers. Most other people are cowards, including me. A shirt or a rug, or a comedy routine to "not let the terrorists win" is just crass commercialism made to keep the real American concern of the economy remaining afloat.
Commemoration of such an actual tragedy is what disgusts me. Yet the people bought the stuff up. They made slide shows, banners, songs, and everything else as if:
1. They were actually achieveing anything and
2. That they were helping out in any meaningful way.
Cheerleading, nay cheerfollowing, alone is not doing anything. It is just adding to the noise. As if what they think is important.
I know that this write-up is unimportant. I am not dedicating it to the people who died that day. I have to mention this shirt becuase I got it for free.
What happened on 9/11 should not be trivialized, as it might be said that this write-up is doing. Thus, I'll stop.
