The freedom of this shirt was unexpected when I first heard about the then upcoming donation. The shirt was given to Donor Corrine's cousin Kate while on a free tour of the Anheiser-Busch brewery in Saint Louis, Missouri. Kate volunteered for Teach for America. One tiny perk of the volunteering happened to be a free tour of the brewery. Kate gave Corrine the shirt and Corrine wisely chose to donate the shirt to me on a quick trip back to Ohio.
I have driven past the St. Louis Anheuser-Busch brewery while on vacation in St. Louis. I had no interest to go inside. I did like the little fox with a stien gargoyles that stick out the side of the building. With so many other things to do in town, I was plenty busy going to places that I actually felt like visiting. I have no regrets over missing the opportunity to watch beer being made.
Budweiser's self-appointed ascention to the throne of beers based on sales seems to be a bit too self-serving to me. Sales is a good measure of popularity, but not necessarily of anything else. Take the example of Michael Jackson who appointed himself the "King of Pop" despite relying on Quincy Jones to get big and make garbage after he got popular. Obviously, there is quite a bit of difference between pop music and beer, yet the delusion of grandeur still rubs me the wrong way. It would be just as valid for me to be the King of the Internet and the only thing stopping the reader from believing this to be so is that I do not have money to dump into advertising.
